The Ford Focus compact car was first introduced in the year 1999, it was first released in North America.
The Focus concept was first showcased at Paris Motor Show in 1998.
Currently, the Focus compact car is marketed in Asia, Africa, South America and in Australia.
First Generation (2000-2007)
The first generation Ford Focus models were available in wagon, hatchback and in sedan forms.
The sedan model was produced on the C170 platform. The Ford Focus replaced the models like Ford Coutour, Ford Escort and Mercury Mystique. The initial Focus model won the North American Car of the Year Award in 2000.
The key features of the first generation Ford Focus model were its handling capability, cargo room, control layout and fuel economy rates.
On the other hand, engine noise, rear seat entry/exit and acceleration were considered as main drawbacks. The Ford Focus sedan was offered in four trim versions viz. the base model LX, SE, ZTS and 4-door SE station wagon.
Looking at the exterior dimensions, the Ford Focus had wheelbase of 103.0 inches, length of 168.1 inches, width of 66.9 inches and height of about 56.3 inches.
Its curb weight was around 2551 lbs, and it could accommodate up to 5-passengers.
Second Generation (2008-Present)
The 2009 Ford Focus was slightly redesigned, gaining more powerful engine and few features. It was offered in four-door sedan and in 2-door coupe body forms.
The interior region was redesigned too; the standard engine choice was the 2.0 liter DOHC I-6 engine, mated to 5-speed manual or optional 4-speed automatic transmission.
The major competitors to the new Ford Focus include Volkswagen Jetta, Pontiac Vibe, Toyota Matrix, Hyundai Elantra, Scion xB and Nissan Versa.
