2010 Focus models are equipped with a 2.0-L inline 4-cylinder engine that pumps out 140 hp and torsion of about 136 lb-ft. A cleaner version of this engine earns PZEV tailpipe-emissions certification and it delivers 132 hp and 133 lb-ft of torque.

The standard transmission on Focus models is a 5-speed manual, while 4-speed auto is available as an option. In performance testing, Focus wagon went from 0 to 60 mph in a time span of 9.7 seconds.

Gas Mileage

The EPA estimated fuel economy of 2010 Ford Focus Wagon is rated at 24 mpg in city, 35 mpg on highways, and 28 mpg combined for the manual. Opting for the automatic transmission reduces the highway estimate to 33 mpg.

Ford’s electric vehicle (EV) will go on sale by the end of 2011. The next generation Focus EV comes in a unique design, and the battery-powered version of Focus will be built in Michigan and Wayne.

What’s new in EV?

Focus EV uses 23 kW lithium ion batteries from LG Chem, which can be charged in 3 to 4 hours using a 240 volt charger.

It features a liquid-cooled battery management system that can cover up to 80 to 100 miles on an average.

Engine Specs

2012 Ford Focus EV will be using 100 kW electric traction motor to drive the front wheels. The whole package gives the total output of 123 hp and 181 lb-ft of power and torque respectively.



The top speed of new Focus EV will be 84 miles per hour and it can cover up to 70 miles in a single charge.

Pricing

Ford’s first compact EV will be introduced in the market in 2011. However, Ford has not yet announced the pricing detail of new Focus EV, but the price range of this model is obviously expected to be higher than all Ford Focus trucks.

Focus gets 40 MPG EPA Rating

The luxury sedan gets a 40 MPG EPA Rating on highways, by the Environmental Protection Agency, however, there is a catch. Not all the trims of the new Focus join the 40 mpg club. Only Ford Focus SE can hit the 40 mpg mark, that too if the buyer wants to choose the optional Super Fuel Economy package.



Without this package all models are certified to give a fuel economy of 38 mpg on highways. The optional package boosts the fuel economy by 5%. In order to boost the mileage the package includes steel wheels with aerodynamic covers, a rear spoiler, low rolling resistance tires and rear disc brakes. A smaller Ford Fiesta gets a similar Fuel Economy package at a price of $2,765. The price of the optional package for Ford Focus SE is not yet revealed.

The 2012 Ford Focus MPG ratings definitely make the model a very good investment and a potential leader in the segment of environment friendly vehicles.
